If you’re going to India to travel, visit friends, lie on the beach or improve your health then acquiring Indian visa won’t be a problem.

Apart from conventional “two vacant pages in passport” and “6 months till passport expires” you may be also asked for return ticket or a ticket continuing your trip from India.

Applying for Indian visa

Applying for Indian visa is available not earlier than 34 days before the trip and not later than 4 days before the trip. So, to apply one should go to e-TOURIST VISA (eTV) web-page and open a tab e-Tourist Visa Application.

Then you’ll have to fill out a long questionnaire honestly. Questionnaire is quite meticulous and will make you recall nationalities and places of birth of your nearest relatives. Ask your grandmas and grandpas if they ever lived in Pakistan – it’ll be necessary, too ☺ Contact information of those waiting for you in India will be needed also. Visa is acquired for one-entry visit.

The maximum length of stay is 30 days.

Then you are asked to download a photo of yourself and the first page in passport. Parameters for files are: photo in JPEG (size between 10 Kb and 1 Mb), minimum 350×350 pixels; passport in PDF size between 10 and 300 Kb.

Visa fees are paid then (depending on your citizenship it ranges from $0 to $60). Cards of main paying systems and PayPal are accepted. After paying the fees, you’ll be getting an e-mail with confirmation of your payment and taking your application for review.

In three days period you’ll get an e-mail, granting you a visa to the country of elephants and chess. This document is to be printed and stored carefully in a safe place during your entire journey. It looks like this:

This type of visa is valid in the airports of Bangalore, Goa, New Delhi, Mumbai (Bombay), Calcutta, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, Chennai.

After arrival

Upon your arrival at the airport find a place with inscription saying e-TOURIST VISA, where a stamp is made in your passport after seeing your visa.

Getting a visa to India isn’t that much of a problem. How to plan a trip all by yourself is quite a mind-breaker. How we stepped on that rake is described here.
